about citrus lounge

Background

Citrus Lounge was established in 1998 by founder Chris Whalley,
then a.k.a. "Dr Citrus" as a web design and development consultancy.

The company name is derived from an early experimental website run by Chris: an online exhibition of artistic paraphernalia that resembled some kind of 'cafe lounge' with a revulsion against the plethora of modem-crunching and otherwise useless, brochure-styled websites designed by companies with names like "IT Company Limited". Enough said here.

We quickly built a reputation for delivering fresh-faced website material and won contracts for Manchester Training & Enterprise Council (now Manchester Solutions), Manchester City Council, Colleges and various private enterprises.

High Growth

In 2005 we were invited to build and pilot an electronic assessment solution to help deliver NVQs (National Vocation Qualifications) by a major training provider on a large number of learners. It was an instant success.

We now have over 400 customers using OneFile as well as endorsements and acceptance from the UK's four largest awarding bodies: City & Guilds, Edexcel, OCR and EDI.

Our close relationship with the University of Manchester has given us excellent support through the high-growth incubation programme, access to business training programmes and resources, and countless networking opportunities with some of the most innovative and influential leaders in business.
